A Departed Memory captures a distant memory and within that memory, a viewer is transported into a royal blue and sapphire seascape, juxtaposed with a weathered dock.

A Departed Memory illuminates a stronger side of Mother Nature: her power to reclaim. As the dock falters, a viewer must contemplate the balance, relationship and disposition of man and nature. Using deep cobalt tones, Tanner has accentuated the dock with a sense of fleeting structure, contrasting the sprawling natural imagery shown in the foreground. The broken fence further demonstrates nature’s intentions. A Departed Memory features a brilliant horizon in the distance to promote the notion that as structures around us wither away, nature offers new beginnings.
