Fantôme Du Bayou
Fantôme Du Bayou
While much of Tanner's work makes no claim to any specific geographical reference, this piece pays homage to the swamps and bayous of Louisiana and their symbolic association with French Acadian history. Deep ultramarine blues create a rich, luxurious backdrop for a lone, mammoth cypress hung heavy with Spanish moss. The ominous silhouette against the darkly glowing sky has a presence that is indescribable but familiar to anyone who has spent time in the depths of the Louisiana swamps, inspiring the piece's title: Fantôme du Bayou, or "ghost of the swamp". Like many of Tanner's pieces, the awe inspiring mood created by nuances of color, value and shape are lost in translation and must be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.
Note: Because of the deep colors of Fantôme Du Bayou, we recommend using a spotlight to fully appreciate this particular image.
